What looks
like an island directly in front is called "Island Point" and was
named by *George Elphingstone Dalrymple. This was to let mariners
following in his wake know that it might look like an island but
it is the mainland and there was most likely an anchorage on the
other side.
There is an anchorage on the other side of Island Point and it is the small and shallow harbour of Port Douglas.
*Other landmarks in this vicinity were named by George but were named after prominent people viz. Daintree River after Richard Daintree, Alexandra Range after the Princess of Wales and Dagmar Range after Alexandra's younger sister.
